Core i7-3930X vs Core i7-990X
The current top of the range Intel Core i7-990X is operating at a frequency of 3.46 GHz (3.73 GHz with Turbo Boost) and compatible with the X58 Express. By the end of the year, this CPU will be replaced in the same price (1,000 euros) by the new Core i7 processor-based architecture 3960X Sandy Bridge-E to 32 nanometers. According to slides posted by DonanimHaber turkish site, the performance of this CPU will be much higher.
The Core i7-3960X is a 6-core processor with clock frequency of 3.3 GHz (3.9 GHz with Turbo Boost), 15 MB L3 cache and the multiplier unlocked. The value of the TDP is 130 watts, while the compatible chipset is the Intel x79 Express.According to tests performed by the Santa Clara chipmaker, the presence of afour-channel memory controller will have a higher bandwidth with up to 65% higher than the Core i7-990X SPEC CPU tests in 2006 and even double Sandra 2011B in the test.
You will have similar performance with multimedia applications that make use of the AVX instruction, while in 3DMark 2011, ahead of the Core i7-990X should be equal to 36%. Finally, in applications optimized for multithreading, the average performance of the new processor should be above 15%.
This is obviously preliminary tests (and part), but so far Intel has almost always kept his promises. It remains to evaluate the comparison with AMD Bulldozer to hit the market by the end of September.
